Life without a hand-held Device

Life without a hand-held Device

It’s 2013, technology has seeped into our lives faster than we could ever imagine possible. From BlackBerrys to iPads to 60” plasma Tvs, our lives have just been upgraded and invaded with high-tech products that we wouldn’t recognize an FM radio if we saw one.
We’ve gotten used to being “up-to-date” all the time with all the social media networks; Facebook asking us “what’s on our mind”, Twitter constantly wanting us to “compose a new tweet”, and Four square always checking up on us and where we are like a doting mother would. We don't have our own personal space anymore; we have to share everything with everyone for some reason. we can’t go on a day without our BlackBerry or Android, we can’t just go to bed without saying goodnight to our “followers”, and those extremely boring meetings at work are just another Facebook status waiting to be written.
Can you even imagine your life without your iPod, iPad, BB, Galaxy, or whatever device you have in your hand/ pocket right now? Can you imagine there are other ways to reach out to people and connect with them other than tech products? Can you remember what you did before downloading Whatsapp or BBM on your phone; how you got to your friends when you needed them? I bet you don't and I bet you don’t even wanna remember! Information and technology is being handed to us on a silver spoon; fed to us in the form of TV commercials and we just can’t get enough of it. Look at how many people went and bought the new iPhone, to me it’s still the same phone for God’s sake; NOTHING changed in that supposedly “new” version except for size.
I'm not saying it’s a bad thing to own or want the “new” BlackBerry or the new iPhone, what I’m saying is, too much of something will eventually kill you! Too much technology will tear us apart. Divorce rates are up just because couples do nothing but stare at their phones all day. People die while texting and driving. We hang out with friends just to sit there and tweet about it.
Don't let technology take you away from the people you love, go back to the old you and start calling your friends. Don't text your best friend on her birthday, but call her. Don't poke someone on facebook but say Hi when you see them next time on the street. Try living life without your hand-held and don’t worry about having to “charge” your phone or update 1000+ people with your every move. Live life, love life, that’s what matters!!
