Dial up your date confidence

Dial up your date confidence

If you’ve recently come out of a long-term relationship or you have the natural confidence of a wallflower, dating can seem like a pretty daunting occupation. When it comes to impressing a man, confidence is the key. You might not have fluttery eyes like Angelia Jolie or the giraffe legs of a Victoria’s Secret model but if you can show him your confidence wit and charm, you’ll still win him over.
So what can you do if you’re feeling less than brave?
Relax before you go out
Before you head out on a date, make sure you leave yourself plenty of time to get ready. If you’re feeling stressed try taking a long hot bath and practising some yoga or breathing techniques. Pick out an outfit the day before so there’ll be no last minute ‘what to wear’ panic. Some people also think a vigorous work out several hours before a date can help you relax- just don’t forget to shower afterwards!
Think positively
Before a date, remind yourself of all your best qualities so you can put them across. If you’re struggling to come up with them yourself you could try calling a trusted friend or family member for a little pre date pep talk.
Fake it till you make it
If you don’t have natural confidence, fake it for now. You don’t need to come across as brash and arrogant, just practice speaking clearly and sharing your opinions. Remember what you felt like at your most confident and try to emulate it throughout the night.
Smile
It sounds obvious but when we’re nervous it’s easy to forget to smile at our date. The more smiley you are, the more confident and happy you’ll seem. Plus smiling releases happy endorphins so if you are feeling anxious, it can even help to relax you.
Use confident body language
If you’re slouched over in your chair or staring at the floor, you won’t come across as the fun confident girl you want to be. Sit up straight during your date with your shoulders pushed back. You may not feel confident but your body language can help you fake it.
Prepare questions
If you have a tendency to freeze on the spot, try to think of some insightful interesting questions to ask him before the date. We’re not suggesting you stuff flash cards up your sleeve, just have an idea of what you’d like to know. Whilst he’s busy answering you’ll have a few minutes to gather yourself.
